Directions to NVJCYO fields -- 1999
Note -- All directions are from the Beltway
1. Nottoway Field #6 (near Vienna)
Take I-66 west 2 miles to exit 62 for Nutley Street (Route 243). Follow Nutley Street north 3/4 mile to the traffic light for Courthouse Road. Turn left onto Courthouse Road and follow it 1/2 mile to the entrance to Nottoway Park, on the left. Enter the Park and follow the signs to the athletic fields. At a sharp bend in the road, turn left into the parking lot for ballfields #5 and #6. Walk up the hill, going around the Little League field, to field #6. (Note -- there are several fields at the Park.)
2. O'Connell High School (in Arlington near Falls Church)
Take I-66 east about 3 3/4 miles to the exit for US 29 (Lee Highway). Follow the signs for US 29 north, which will take you across the bridge over I-66. Stay on Lee Highway only about 1/3 mile and turn left at the traffic light for Sycamore Street. Follow Sycamore Street only 1/4 mile, turning left at the first street, 26th Street. Make a quick right onto Trinidad Street and you will be at the field.
3. Occoquan Field #1 (just north of Occoquan)
Follow I-95 south 9 1/2 miles. Get in the right lane as you cross the bridge over the Occoquan River ("Purple Heart Bridge"). Take exit 160 for Route 123 north. Follow Route 123 for 2 miles to the entrance to Occoquan Regional Park on the right. Follow the main road as it winds through the park, all the way to the end, about 2 1/3 miles. Turn right into the parking lot and walk on the path to the baseball field next to the batting cages. (You will pass a softball field on the right and left of the parking lot.)
4. Paul VI High School (in Fairfax City)
Take the exit for I-66 west. Follow I-66 about 4 miles to the exit for Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road). Take Route 123 south only about 1/2 mile. Turn right at US 29 (Lee Highway). Drive only about 1/2 mile, passing Paul VI School on the left, and turn left onto Oak Street. Turn left at the first street (Panther Place), which takes you into the parking lot behind Paul VI. The field has light poles.
5. South Run Field #1 (near Burke Lake)
Take I-95 to the exit for Old Keene Mill Road (near Springfield Mall). Take Old Keene Mill Road (Route 644) west a very short distance on the right, following the signs closely for Route 617 (Backlick Road ) south. This will take you in practically a circular turn onto Amherst Avenue and a bridge crossing over Old Keene Mill Road. Follow Amherst Avenue as it becomes Backlick Road. 1/2 mile from the bridge, follow the sign for Route 7900 (Franconia-Springfield Parkway) west. Take the Parkway about 5 miles to its end. Continue in the same direction. You are now on Route 7100 (Fairfax County Parkway). Another 1 mile on the left is South Run District Park. The baseball field has tall light poles -- its right field and right center field are bounded by the Parkway.
6. Holy Spirit Church (on the border between Annandale and Burke)
Take the exit for Braddock Road. Follow Braddock Road west 1 3/4 miles almost to Burke Lake Road. Holy Spirit Church is on the right. The best approach is to turn right on Woodland Way and then turn right into the church parking lot. The field is at the north portion of the church property, behind the school.
7. Linton Hall School (west of Manassas)
Follow I-66 west 20 miles to Exit 44 for Route 234 south. Follow 234 south 5 miles as it merges onto Route 28 south. Follow Route 28 1 1/2 miles to the traffic light at Route 619 (Linton Hall Road). Turn right onto Linton Hall Road and follow it 1 1/2 miles to Linton Hall School. Turn right onto the school road and follow it 1/4 mile, past two soccer fields on the left and then turn left just before the school. Park in the large parking lot behind the school. The field is next to the lot.
8. St. Andrew Church (between Centreville and Clifton)
Follow I-66 west about 11 1/2 miles to the exit for Route 28. Take Route 28 south about 2 2/3 miles. Turn left at the traffic light onto Compton Road. Follow Compton Road about 1 2/3 miles. Just before the intersection with Union Mill Road, turn left into the wooded grounds of St. Andrew Church. Drive toward the church building, veer to the right and park in the parking lot. The baseball field is across the drive from the parking lot, and the baseball backstop is in the farthest corner of the field.
9. St. Anthony Church (between Falls Church and Arlington)
from the south (Woodrow Wilson Bridge)
Take the exit for I-395 north. Follow I-395 for 4 3/4 miles to the exit for King Street (Route 7) west. Follow Route 7 for 2 1/2 miles to the traffic light at Glen Carlyn Road. (Culmore Shopping Center on left and St. Anthony Church on the right). Turn right onto Glen Carlyn Road and take the first right into the parking lot of the church. The field is at the farthest (northeast) corner of the property. Note: you will find better parking on Magnolia Lane, which is the first street before Glen Carlyn Road -- this is especially important on Sundays, to avoid getting boxed-in by the church-goers.
from the north (American Legion Bridge)
Take the exit for US 50 east. Follow US 50 for 3 1/2 miles to 7 Corners and take the exit for Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) east. Follow the signs to get onto Route 7 and take Route 7 for about 1 1/3 miles to the traffic light at Glen Carlyn Road. (Culmore Shopping Center on right and St. Anthony Church on the left). Turn left onto Glen Carlyn Road and take the first right into the parking lot of the church. The field is at the farthest (northeast) corner of the property. Note: you will find better parking on Magnolia Lane, which is the first street before Glen Carlyn Road -- this is especially important on Sundays, to avoid getting boxed-in by the church-goers.
10. St. John Church (in McLean, near north Arlington)
from the south (Woodrow Wilson Bridge)
Take the exit for Route 123 (at the north end of the Tysons Corner area). Follow 123 (Dolley Madison Blvd.) northeast about 1 3/4 miles to Route 309 (Old Dominion Drive). Turn right on Old Dominion Dr. and follow it about 1 3/4 miles to the traffic light at Birch Road. Turn left into the St. John Church property, go up the hill, and turn right past the church. Note -- this church has strict parking rules -- you need to park far from the church, near the old church building. See the parking map.
from the north (American Legion Bridge)
Take the exit for Route 193 (Georgetown Pike) east. Turn left onto Georegtown Pike and, immediately after crossing the bridge over the Beltway, turn right onto Balls Hill Road (Route 696). Follow Balls Hill Road about 1 mile and turn left onto Old Dominion Drive. Follow Old Dominion Drive about 2 1/3 miles to the traffic light at Birch Road. Turn left into the St. John Church property, go up the hill, and turn right past the church. Note -- this church has strict parking rules -- you need to park far from the church, near the old church building. See the parking map.
11. St. Leo Church (in Fairfax City)
Take the exit for US 50 (Arlington Blvd.) west. Follow US 50 west about 2 2/3 miles and exit to the right at Fairfax Circle. Follow the signs for Old Lee Highway south, which will take you halfway around Fairfax Circle. Follow Old Lee Highway 1 1/2 miles to St. Leo Church on the right. Turn right into the church parking lot, veer to the left of the church, and you will come upon the field. This church has strict rules on parking for week-end games starting 3:00 or later: at that time, don't park in the church parking lot, unless you are also planning to attend the late afternoon Mass. You can always park in the neighborhood or at the County park just south of the church property.
12. St. Stephens & St. Agnes School (in Alexandria)
Take I-395 north to the exit for Seminary Road south. Follow Seminary Road 1 mile to the traffic light for St. Stephens Road. Turn right. After a few blocks, the field will be on the right at the main entrance to the school campus.
13. George Mason School (in Falls Church at I-66)
Take I-66 east 1 1/3 miles to the exit for Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) east. As you merge onto Route 7, quickly try to move to the left lane of Route 7. Turn left into George Mason School and drive to the parking lot behind the school.
14. Catholic University (these directions are from the U.S. Capitol)
Follow North Capitol Street and then turn onto Michigan Avenue east, past the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Turn left onto McCormack Road, immediately before the Metro tracks. Drive to the Raymond A. Dufour Athletic Center on the left. Park in front and walk up through the building to the track
and baseball field.
